Marshall Supplies Docks Trailers

7th January 2013

Marshall QM/14s Being Delivered for Dock WorkMarshalls recently delivered six bespoke QM/14 for unloading feed materials from ships; to replace the previous six trailers Marshalls supplied. In partnership with company that runs the operation Marshalls developed the ideal trailer for the job. In addition the standard specification 10 stud commercial axles, spring drawbar and hydraulic up & over door each trailer had specially designed sides to increase carrying capacity and extra lighting for safety around the docks area. The trailers operate 24 hours a day and carry loads of up to 20 tons; quite impressive for 14-ton trailers that have had no further modifications than those mentioned above. The key to this success lies in Marshall’s unique chassis design, which is extremely strong but allows the chassis to flex without cracking.

The trailers will carry over 370,000 tons of material every year, which is more work than most trailers do in a lifetime. Previously a fleet of lorries were used to transport the feed, but due to their size they were not particularly easy to manoeuver and drivers had to leave their cabs to unlatch the doors. Trailers and tractors proved to be much more efficient cutting 2.5 minutes off the turnaround time for a trip to the nearest warehouse.
